This is part of a sponsored collaboration with the California Milk Processor Board and DiMe Media . However, all opinions expressed are our own.

Our kitchen is our playground. We spend a lot of time there so FUN IS A MUST. Especially when family or friends come over with their little munchkins. Art and I are thinking about adopting one day and love having the little ones around. We know it’s important to keep them busy with fun, creative activities. Both Art and I are HUGE and I mean HUGE craft guys. Just come around our house for Christmas or even Easter and you’ll be overwhelmed with our creativity. Just sayin’.

Well, the word must have leaked out on the street about our nifty craft talents because we were asked to be part of a promotion that involved making art with milk cartons. We thought what a fabulous combination! It’s all about promoting awareness for a cool contest for California families. The contest encourages moms, dads or uncles (let’s hear it for the Tios of the world!) and their kids to submit a photo of an original piece of art created from a milk container for the chance to win $2,000 toward college tuition.

Check out this cute video from on the Toma Leche Facebook page to learn more on how to enter and win.  http://on.fb.me/1Fg9OrF

We’re big milk drinkers in this household. We love using milk in our recipes. Think about tres leches cake, flan, arroz con leche, Mexican hot chocolate, oh my! We also love drinking it after a good work out to stay hydrated and full. We go through at least a gallon of milk each week.

As we were milling around thinking what we could possibly make with a plastic milk jug it came to me. I was washing wooden spoons and I thought how about a utensil holder. Art being the fun, creative guy, he came up with the coolest name, “MOOtensil Holder.” Don’t you just love it??? Check it out.

Here are the easy steps to make your own MOOtensil Holder. C’mon, you know you want to do this! What are you waiting for? Go ahead and enter to win the contest!

1. Drink your milk. A plastic half-gallon works best because of the size but also because the plastic makes it waterproof.

step 1

2. Using a marker, map out where you are going to cut. Right below the handle is best. Wash and dry your jug.

step 2

3. Paint your utensil holder anyway you’d like. Since our holder is a “MOOtensil” holder, we painted ours to look like a little cow. Allow to dry.

step 3

4. Using painters tape, tape off portions of wooden spoons for painting, the handle portion of course!Paint in fun colors and allow to dry before removing the tape.

step 4

5. Fill your new utensil holder with your colorful wooden spoons and start cooking!

step 5

If you want a chance to win $2,000 for your child’s education and you live in California simply turn a milk container into a work of art and send your piece to: Toma Leche Facebook Page. (Here are the contest rules).
