Do you ever watch those food shows where a top-notch chef gets eliminated because they didn’t season their food enough? Doesn’t it just kill you? It doesn’t matter how good their technique is, you will be chopped for not seasoning the dish.

It’s true at home, too, albeit you don’t win $10,000 in cash for serving an award-winning meal to your familia. Well-seasoned food takes your dish to the next level and that’s what we discovered when we tried Tastefully Simple seasonings and sauces this week. It was the “BAM!” to otherwise boring skinless chicken breasts, salad, and baby dutch yellow potatoes.

CHICKEN BREAST WITH BAYOU BOURBON GLAZE

Warmer weather means we will be grilling more. The Bayou Bourbon Glaze is one of our favorite sauces. Notes of brown sugar, BOURBON, soy sauce with hints of onion and garlic with an ever slight heat turned our normally boring boneless, skinless chicken breasts into something to sing about!  We first seasoned the chicken with their Seasoned Salt — Spices, bell peppers, celery, and sea salt make this all-purpose seasoning perfect for meat and vegetables. We grilled the chicken and brushed on the thick sweet Bayou Bourbon Glaze during the last five minutes of cooking. It was enough to take the chicken breasts to a whole other level of goodness.

BABY DUTCH YELLOW POTATOES WITH GARLIC GARLIC SEASONING

Two years ago Art and I traveled to Italy for vacation. At one of the restaurants, we were served baby potatoes perfectly seasoned with sea salt and loads of garlic. The potatoes were broiled swimming in a good quality olive oil. You can smell it, right? The garlic perfumed the entire room. I am always trying to recreate that dish. It never comes out quite the same. I think that’s due to the enchantment of being in Europe and at a small ristorante in Florence, Italy. Sigh.

The Garlic Garlic Seasoning from Tastefully Simple got us pretty close to that dish in Italy. First I cleaned and halved the baby dutch yellow potatoes from Melissas Produce. With the seasoning, you get all of the intense garlic flavors without having to peel and chop garlic. It was a wonderful thing.  The minced garlic, minced onion, salt, garlic powder, chives, and other spices I could see easily being stirred into a tub of sour cream to make a delicious dip for veggies or chips.

GOTTA GET YOUR GREENS IN!

Since we have been forced to stay at home due to the Coronavirus, Art and I have been looking for ways to eat more greens. This wasn’t hard to do with a large romaine lettuce salad and the Vidalia Onion Dressing from Tastefully Simple. Wow. We loved it.  Sweet, tangy, I can see using this for a warm spinach salad or drizzling into a chicken sandwich.
