It’s a summertime tasting event you don’t want to miss! AltaMed is presenting its annual “East LA Meets Napa” event, an exclusive food and wine pairing tasting that celebrates the richness of Mexican food and success of Latino-owned restaurants and vineyards in California. The event will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012, from 6-9 p.m. at Union Station at 800 N Alameda St in Los Angeles.
The event will feature food stations sponsored by Los Angeles area restaurants and wine stations by California vineyards. Guests will combine their favorite foods with distinctive wine to discover their own perfect blend. All proceeds from the wine tasting benefit AltaMed Health Services.

Playa Restaurant
Voted “Chef of the Year” by Esquire Magazine, Chef John Sedlar treated journalists and local food bloggers like LatinoFoodie to a special tasting on June 28 at the popular Playa Restaurant on 7360 Beverly Blvd in Los Angeles. The preview featured Chef Hugo Molina of Setá Restaurant (one of our favorites in Whittier, Ca.), who knocked it out of the ballpark with his dishes, along with Chef Rocio Camacho of Rocio’s Moles de los Dioses.
Chef Hugo Molina of Seta Restaurant presented Gambas al ajillo dulce con pimiento rojo. Absolutely divine!
We also had a chance to meet the author AltaMed’s second publication of, In Their Own Words II, a book dedicated to Latino Restaurant families and chefs living in Southern California written by Sergio C. Muñoz, Jr. . The book features personal biographies of each family or chef, a recipe and a wine pairing. We’ll be writing a cookbook review and feature some of the recipes in the weeks to come.
